Newbury car dealership Whitequay in administration
The dealership, which had two showrooms in Faraday Road, Newbury, entered administration last Thursday and accountancy and investment group Smith and Williamson have been appointed to deal with the firm’s finances.
A statement from Smith and Williamson read: “We are working hard to sell all three sites at Southampton, Reading and Newbury – and there is strong interest therein.
“We are doing our best in a very difficult situation but there is insufficient money to be able to keep the sites open and therefore all three sites have, very regrettably, effectively been forced to close. There has been no option but to make staff redundant at Southampton and Reading.”
The company would not be drawn on any job losses in Newbury.
As reported on Newburytoday yesterday, the news follows speculation over the future of the business after transporters removed cars from the dealer's Skoda showroom on Monday.
Lorries were also seen taking vehicles from the Seat forecourt last Friday and calls to the business’s head office in Southampton have gone unanswered.
The company also has an Alfa Romeo showroom in Reading and dealerships in Southampton which were also reportedly closed on Monday.
