Newbury celebrates St Patrick's Day
Pubs and clubs prepare to celebrate the patron saint of the emerald isle
NEWBURY town centre pubs and clubs will be full of shamrock-shaped shenanigans to celebrate St Patrick's Day today (Thursday).
For the fourth year running, The Snooty Fox in Bartholomew Street is laying a turf floor, to celebrate the day and also to mark the Cheltenham Festival, and claim to have the cheapest Guinness in town on the day, while the Hogs Head, in Wharf Street, is hosting a week of food and drink promotions, including Irish stew and an Irish band tonight from 7pm, to celebrate the patron saint of the emerald isle.
At the Canal Bar, behind the Old Waggon and Horses, in the Market Place, Irish landlord, Lee Kelly, promises give-aways with DJ Smiley Dave spinning Irish and rock music tonight, from 8pm til late.
Liquid nightclub, off Cheap Street, is hosting a SPD party tonight from 10pm to 2am tickets £4, £3 advance, telephone (01635) 237144, while children's activities at North Thatcham Children's Centre will include making shamrocks, with children and parents to dress in green.
