Newbury charity boosted by car show funds
Classic car owners hand over £12,000 cheque
THE combined efforts of motoring enthusiasts and a Newbury charity have paid dividends once again.
Members of the West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club raised more than £12,188 for Newbury Bloodwise at its annual car show this year, held at Newbury College in August.
Since the event started 24 years ago, the club has raised more than £116,000 for the local charity (previously Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research).
West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club chairman Mike Kent handed over a cheque to Newbury Bloodwise chairman Les Taylor at the college earlier this month.
Mr Taylor said: “I would like to say a very big thank you to all the committee and club members of the West Berkshire classic Vehicle Club who have raised a substantial amount of money over the past 24 years through their annual classic vehicle shows.
“The 2016 show was a tremendous success.
“Also, a huge thank you to all those classic vehicle, motor bike enthusiasts and members of the public who came along to support the event. We very much appreciate it.”
