Newbury children's sugarcraft group scoop bronze medal

Sugar coated hare and tortoise

The Hare and the Tortoise was part of a medal-winning display by a Newbury children’s sugarcraft group.

The Cygnets children’s sugarcraft group, which meets monthly at St John’s hall, were awarded a bronze medal at a competition held recently at Brighton Racecourse, as part of a southern regional meeting for branches of the British Sugarcraft Guild.

The chairwoman of Newbury Sugarcraft Guild, Gill Glare, said: “They have all worked tirelessly on this competition project and it is a stunning display depicting the fable The Hare and the Tortoise.”

An adults’ sugarcraft group meets in the parish room at St John’s Church, in St John's Road, on the first Tuesday of each month, and the Cygnet children’s group meet on the second Saturday of each month, from 9.30am to 11.30am, at the same venue.
