Newbury Christmas lights illuminated
Hundreds of people pack into the town’s Market Place to witness the festive lights switch-on
SANTA made his way to Newbury last night (Friday) to help switch the town's Christmas lights on.
Father Christmas rode his sleigh through Northbrook Street to the Market Place where hundreds of people waited anxiously for the lights to be illuminated.
Mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck, was joined on stage by ten-year-old Denise Harris from West Woodhay, who won a competition to switch on the lights.
Newbury town band, Watership Brass Band, together with St Nicolas Church Choir entertained the crowds with a number of Christmas hymns and songs, such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells.
