Newbury Easter service to be broadcast on BBC tomorrow (Sunday)

Hundreds of attendees descended on the historic church and the congregation was said to be in good voice as the hymns such as Christ The Lord is Risen and Thine be the Glory were sung alongside the Hallelujah chorus, and Oh Come All Ye Faithful.
The former Archbishop of Canterbury, the Right Reverend and Right Honourable The Lord Carey of Clifton (pictured right) gave the Easter Address and special blessing, and prayers were led by the Reverend of St Nicolas Church, Will Hunter Smart.
Mr Hunter Smart said: “It was a joyful occasion with some high quality singing. Easter in Newbury has been celebrated in this church for over 900 years, so to serve all of Berkshire is a momentous thing.
“There was a real sense of Berkshire coming together to celebrate. It was wonderful to have Lord Carey give the address. St Nicolas Church has a desire to serve Newbury and the wider area, and this broadcast will give us our widest audience, or congregation, for quite some time.”
Present to take part in the recording were the Wokingham Choral Society, the Reading Community Gospel Choir, the Thames Valley Chorus, the BBC Berkshire Choir, and the St Nicolas Church choir.
The hour-long broadcast can be heard on BBC Berkshire at 9am tomorrow (Easter Sunday).
