Newbury employees raise £4,000 in wolf run
Staff at Newbury Fitting Centre ran 10km through mud, lakes and woodland for the cause
Eight employees of a Newbury carpet fitting firm put their fitness, stamina and determination to the test when they joined the ranks of the recent Warwickshire Wolf Run, raising £4,000 for charity.
Taking part were staff at Newbury Fitting Centre Kerry Mann, Rachael Walsh, Lauren Graham, Hannah Fowkes, Charlotte Weatherill, Amy Gerrard, Kayleigh Santos and Jade Knight.
The 10km course challenges participants to run, crawl and climb through a series of natural and man-made obstacles, from rivers and muddy bogs to fallen trees, ditches and fences.
Between them, they raised £3,000 for Cancer Research UK and £1,000 for the Lewy Body Society, charities close to their hearts, far exceeding their £1,500 and £700 targets.
Following the challenge, Ms Mann said: “We felt so shocked about how generous everyone was to help us smash both targets.
“Hannah chose Lewy Body Society as someone close to her suffered from Lewy Body dementia, so she knows first-hand just how much this can affect someone’s life and those around them.
“Lauren's sister was going through breast cancer at the tender age of 25, my mum and Kayleigh’s mum have both beaten breast cancer and Amy’s nan has just beaten lymphoma cancer.
“We wanted to give something back to the charity for all their amazing support and treatment throughout this horrible time.
“We decided this would be the best event to choose... it’s about working as part of a team to overcome fears and get through obstacles and, more importantly, cross the finish line together.
“The whole experience was amazing and really tested strength and endurance.
“I can safely say it was one of the coldest and hardest experiences of my life but it was all worth it for the amount we managed to raise.
“We all felt extremely proud once we crossed the finish line.”
