Newbury firefighters battle trail of fires in town centre and Greenham
According to Bob Mitchell, manager of Red Watch at Newbury Fire Station, one fire engine from the station was called at 4.30am to a skip alight at the rear of an Indian restaurant in Cheap Street.
"When we got there the skip, a taxi and a Ford Fiesta car were alight," said Mr Mitchell, adding the car was written off and the taxi slightly damaged.
A second fire engine from Newbury fire station was then called out to a wheelie bin on fire outside the premises of Vets4Pets, in Greenham Road.
After the first fire engine had dealt with the Cheap Street fire, it was then called to the Greenham area, where six wheelie bins were alight, in New Road, Lamtarra Way and Kersten Close:
"All the bins were our for collection today - it was chaotic, as we went up the road, we could see more flames," said Mr Mitchell.
No-one was hurt and the firefighters left the scene after one-and-a-half hours.
Thames Valley Police were in attendance.
