Newbury firefighters free three-year-old from stairgate

According to Mike Young, Red Watch crew manager at Newbury Fire Station, one fire engine and five firefighters were called at 5.25pm to a property in Hill Crescent, after the girl’s knee became stuck in a stairgate.
“She was playing with the stairgate and slipped and her knee went through the bars and she couldn’t pull it back,” said Mr Young, adding the girl was uninjured, but distressed.
After applying a wedge to the bars of the stairgate, in order to force them apart, the firefighters managed to free the girl without using any cutting equipment on the stairgate, which they initially thought might have been necessary.
The incident was closed about 20 minutes later.
