Having attended the house in Artillery Drive, Phil Knight, crew manager of White Watch at Newbury Fire Station, said: “The boy had found a pair of play handcuffs and locked his ankles in them.”
Mr Knight would not be drawn on whether the handcuffs were of the child or adult variety.
Firefighters used a screwdriver and bolt cropper to release the boy, who was unhurt and remained cheerful throughout his ordeal.
