Newbury Floral Society mark six decades




Watermill theatre 60th anniversary bash

Newbury Floral Society marked six decades of petal power with lunch at The Watermill, Bagnor, last Tuesday.

Seventy-three members gathered for celebrations to mark the the 60th anniversary year, including Sue Hopson, the daughter of founder member, the late Dora Buckingham.

Guests enjoyed a talk by the president of the Berkshire, Buckingham and Oxon area of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies, Glenis Smith, who entertained guests with anecdotes of her early travels to demonstrations of floral art in far-flung places, before sat navs.

“It was excellent,” said Barbara Hunt, of Newbury Floral Society.

For an annual subscription of £32, the society meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the British Legion Hall, Pelican Lane, Newbury, for different floral art demonstrations each month.

There will be no meeting in August, the next is at 2pm on Tuesday September 8, all are welcome and entry is free.

At 2pm, on Tuesday, November 10, there will be a demonstration of Christmas floral art, at Arlington Arts, Mary Hare School, Snelsmore. The cost will be £11 per person.
