Newbury goes wild for volunteers
A wild west themed event aimed to boost the number of volunteers in West Berkshire
THE Corn Exchange played host to the fourth volunteer recruitment fair organised by the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire on Saturday (January 15).
Almost 40 local charities were invited to set up information and recruitment stands in the Market Place theatre's auditorium, to entice members of the public to sign up.
This year's event had a wild west theme and volunteer organisations which attended were encouraged to go along in suitable fancy dress.
Amongst the volunteer groups were representatives of the British Red Cross, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, West Berkshire Mencap, Ace Space and Heart for Truth.
Volunteer Centre director, Garry Poulson, said that people had taken the wild west theme to heart.
He said: "We are thrilled with the turn out and the wild west theme has been particularly popular."
