Newbury remembers the fallen
Crowds gathered at Newbury War Memorial for Armistice Day.
This year's Armistice Day service was well attended this morning by members of the public and the Royal British Legion Newbury branch.
The two-minute's silence was observed, along with prayer readings and the Last Post and National Anthem both played.
Also attending the commemorative event were Newbury MP, Laura Farris, and Newbury mayor, Gary Norman.
"I find it hugely moving, I always have done", said Mr Norman.
"My father was in the forces and he always used to think of his old comrades during the minute's silence. He was in the tank regiment and served in the Korean War.
"He's gone now, so I think of him."
Further information is available here about Remembrance services in other towns and villages across West Berkshire.
Newbury's Remembrance Day service will be held on Sunday from 10.30am. The parade will leave Pelican Lane and march along Northbrook Street. The mayor will take the salute in Mansion House Street, before a Remembrance Service is held at Market Place.
Wreaths will then be laid at the War Memorial on the way into St Nicolas Church. Service sheets will be available on the day and also available to download from the Newbury Town Council website.
