Newbury hosts Armed Forces Day County Parade

Hundreds join Royal British Legion county parade in Newbury to honour armed services veterans

THE Royal British Legion (RBL) Armed Forces Day County Parade took place through the streets of Newbury on Sunday.

Hundreds of people took part in the event, which began at the Newbury Royal British Legion building in Pelican Lane before heading to Northbrook Street where the flag was raised in front of Wilkinson's store.

The Reverend Keri Eynon led the salute.

A spokesman for Newbury RBL, Keith Williams, said the turnout was good with people from all ages present.

"All service organisations were represented from across the county," he said.

"The Newbury army cadets deserve a mention for braving the heat as they marched the parade.

"From their 20s to their 90s veterans of all ages were present which was wonderful to see."

The mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck, and the mayor of Hungerford, Martin Crane, both attended.

Standard bearers from a variety of organisations across the district also took part, under the watchful eye of national parade marshal Tony McClements.
