Newbury Library celebrates National Libraries Day




Children's author to visit the library today (Saturday) where fun and games will be available to everyone

NEWBURY Library is celebrating National Libraries Day today (Saturday) with a special visitor.

Children's author Geraldine McCaughrean will be at the library from 11am until 3pm, so children are invited to join her for stories and games.

Also, the Mega Read all-day story session for under eight-year-olds will take place and older people can find out about further educational opportunities with the Open University.

Between 10am and 2pm, the Berkshire Family History Society will help people research their family tree, and all day there will be information and advice available from the Berkshire Dyslexia and Autism Advice Centre.

You can also find out about the library's find out about our reference sources, and take part in quizzes to win a prize.

Other West Berkshire libraries will also be hosting special sessions as part of National Libraries Day.

Over at Thatcham, there will be Berkshire Family History Society sessions from 9.30am until 12pm, teddy bears picnic from 11am until 11.30am and various competitions and quizzes.

Burghfield Library will have children's crafts and book displays, Hungerford Library will have Berkshire Family History Society on hand to answer questions and Lambourn will have a craft event between 11am and 12pm.

Mortimer Library will have a Punch and Judy show from 9.35am until 10am (booking essential on 0118 933 2882), there will be IT for beginners and Berkshire Family History Society on hand to answer questions.

Pangbourne Library will have rhyme time for under threes from 10am, story time for over threes from 11am and a craft table.

Theale Library will have a morning-long story time drop-in and Wash Common Library will have quizzes, prizes, story corner and a free bookmark give away.
