Newbury M&S donates £1k to lifesaving charity

M&S chose the WBRRC as its charity of the year and has spent the past year taking part in various activities to raise the funds.
General manager of M&S Newbury, Amy Tyler, said: "Our staff fundraise for a number of charities throughout the year. However, in the past year we have undertaken a number of fun activities, such as a cycling marathon, non-uniform day and cake bake-off, to raise funds to keep the WBRRC responders on the roads in our local community.
"It was lovely presenting the trustees with a cheque for £1,020.38.”
WBRRC chairman, Andrew Sharp, said: "We were delighted to be contacted by Amy from Marks and Spencer.
"It was a fantastic surprise and a great way to kick off our summer of fundraising. It’s great when companies, big or small, decide to raise money for the WBRRC.
"We are an entirely voluntary charity, relying totally on donations from companies and individuals to continue to operate.
"This summer we are starting a fundraising push to raise funds to purchase a new 4x4 response car and this donation is a fabulous boost. We hope it will encourage other companies to help us to continue to save lives in the community.”
The WBRRC works to support the emergency services, in rural West Berkshire and the surrounding areas, with a team of paramedics and medical technicians who respond to calls in a response car in their own time.
