Newbury man and his son running Bayer race dressed as superheroes
Up to 1,000 runners expected on Sunday
A Newbury man and his son are to take part in the eighth Bayer 10k run on Sunday (May 24) wearing fancy dress, for the third year in a row.
Dan Lagoy is to run the race to raise funds for the charity Help for Heroes, dressed for the third consecutive year as comic book hero, Captain America, alongside his son, Jamie, who will be dressed as Iron Man.
"My wife (Anne-Marie Lagoy), daughter (Nicole Lagoy) and son's girlfriend (Ana Andrade), will be helping us on the day with a street collection in the Newbury market place and Northbrook Street from 9am to 1pm," said Mr Lagoy, who continued:
"We have always been so impressed with the enthusiasm and generosity shown by the public and hope everyone will continue to support such a worthy cause."
Up to 1,000 men, women and children are expected to put their best feet forward in either the 10k event, or the shorter races for under 16s, over distances of 1.5km and 900 metres, with the Bayer Rock choir set to entertain the crowds at the race, organised by Bayer, partnered with Newbury Athletic Club (NAC).
Proceeds from entry fees for this year's race will support Newbury Athletic Club and also Sutton Scotney based Naomi House and Jacksplace, hospices for children and young people with life-limiting conditions. The charity provides care to families and young adults living in communities across the seven counties of Berkshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire.
The pre-event race for ages five to 11, distance 0.9km, and under 16's, distance 1.5km, start at 9.15am, the Bayer 10k multi-terrain race starts at 10.20am. All races start in the Market Place. All runners receive a medal, with trophies and cash prizes for winners.
The race 'HQ' , open from 8.30am, is the Waterside Youth and Community Centre, Waldegrave Place, Northbrook Street, Newbury, RG14 1DS.
