Newbury man arrested on suspicion of grooming under-age girl

Arrest is in relation to incident in Hereford yesterday morning (Saturday)

A TAXI driver from Newbury was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of meeting a child aged under 16 following grooming.

The man, who cannot currently be named for legal reasons, was arrested in Hereford in relation to a video from a ‘paedophile vigilante group’ that has been widely shared on social media.

He has been released on conditional bail until August 5.

West Berkshire Council has confirmed that the man’s taxi licence has since been revoked.

Public protection manager at West Berkshire Council, Paul Anstey, said: “The taxi driver in question had his licence revoked on Monday and we are continuing to assist police in their inquiries.”
