Newbury man completes ultramarathon challenge

Colin Lee ran 201 miles in the space of seven days to raise money for two charities

A NEWBURY man has completed an epic challenge of running more than 200 miles in a week.

Colin Lee ran 201 miles within the space of seven days as part of his self-titled ‘Spider Tour', which took in six ultramarathons (a distance greater than the standard marathon distance of 26.2 miles), including the 45-mile Beacons Ultra.

The 42-year-old, who modestly describes himself as a keen runner, took on the challenge to raise money for Naomi House children's hospice and Fight for Sight, a charity that funds medical research into blindness and eye disease.

Mr Lee, who ran for about 35 hours in total, said: “It was hard but great fun, with many people joining me to support me on the way.

“It was a real adventure, but it went really well and I am really pleased to have done it.”

Mr Lee, who is already thinking about taking on further challenges next year, has raised about £1,400 so far, which will be split equally between the charities, although he is hopeful that more money will still come in.
