Newbury man fined for possessing cannabis




Defendant 'looked twitchy'

A MAN who looked “twitchy” when police approached was caught with cannabis in his car.

In the dock at West Berkshire Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 24, was 23-year-old Owen Temba, of Lime Close, Newbury.

Helen Waite, prosecuting, said: “Police on patrol in Newbury around 10pm came across this defendant and a companion in a vehicle, They could smell cannabis and they looked a bit twitchy as the officers approached.

“They therefore conducted a search and the defendant was very open and honest and handed over a bag of cannabis from his trouser pocket.”

Mr Temba admitted possesing the Class B controlled drug on September 4.

Simon Hammudi, defending, said his client was part-way through an IT apprenticeship and had been “entirely co-operative” with the police.

Magistrates imposed a nine-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay a £180 criminal courts charge plus £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
