Newbury man jailed for breaching ASB injunction

Robert Amos Black sentenced to 10 weeks in prison for breaching civil anti-social behaviour injunction three times

A NEWBURY has been imprisoned for 10 weeks after breaching a civil anti-social behaviour (ASB) injunction on three occasions.

Robert Amos Black, aged 43, of Northway, was convicted of all three breaches of the injunction during proceedings at Reading County Court on Thursday (26).

The ASB injunction was taken out against him by A2 Dominion Housing in August 2011, who presented a case to the County Court with the support of Thames Valley Police, outlining the issues Mr Black had caused in his neighbourhood with his anti-social behaviour.

The injunction was granted on August 23 and will run until August 22 2012.

It prohibits Mr Black from assaulting, threatening, abusing or intimidating any resident of or visitor to Northway, Newbury, and any representative employee, agent or contractor of A3 Dominion. There is a power of arrest with the civil injunction.

Thames Valley Police arrested Mr Black on three separate occasions for breaking the injunction by being abusive and threatening, on November 28, January 3, and January 13.

Supt Robin Rickard, the local policing authority commander for West Berkshire, said: "The conviction and imprisonment of Black for breaching this injunction on three separate occasions is down to a significant joint effort between the A2 Dominion Housing Association and Thames Valley Police.

"This is in the true spirit of partnership working and is a testament to how closely we work with our partners to deal with anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhoods."
