Newbury man threatened in New Year's Day burglary
Victim was forced to the floor of his West Street home and made to give PIN number to two masked men
A NEWBURY man was forced to the floor of his own home during an aggravated burglary on New Year's Day.
At about 10pm, the 42-year-old man answered the door of his home in West Street and was forced to the floor by two men, both who had scarves over their faces.
The victim was threatened with a knife by one offender and made to tell them his PIN number, and the second offender then left the house to withdraw cash from a cash point.
When he returned, the offenders then stole various items from the house including computer games, a mobile phone and a wallet.
Investigating officer DC Greg Hulse said: “This is an extremely concerning incident in which a man was attacked in his own home.
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward and I would especially like to talk to two passers-by who the offenders nearly walked into when they were leaving the property at about 10.25pm.”
A 39-year-old man from Newbury has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
He has been released on bail until February 3.
