Newbury man's hospital fundraising reaches £300k in memory of twins

Trevor Goodall donated the money to the Buscot ward at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, as part of a “lasting memorial” to his twin sons Joshua and Samuel, who were born prematurely on June 19, 1995, but who sadly died shortly afterwards.
Mr Goodall, aged 50, started his fundraising in 1995 in West Berkshire after his sons died and saw it “snowball” over 18 years.
After handing over his latest cheque for £20,000 on Monday, Mr Goodall, said: “It has been nice to raise the money and then come and see how it has been spent.”
“It has also been nice to see the other little babies getting use out of it.”
Lead sister for the Buscot Special Care Baby Unit, Gina Outram, said that the “huge donation” meant that they could purchase four new state-of-the-art machines.
She added: “It’s going to make a difference to the way that we monitor the babies.
“We are delighted; it’s so much money.”
Over the past 18 years, Mr Goodall has organised a series of charity golf tournaments, and other events including balls, raising more than £300,000 for his New Life charity, which donated equipment to special care baby units in the region.
Since fundraising began, Mr Goodall and his friends and family have been familiar faces in the pages of the Newbury Weekly News owing to their efforts.
Mr Goodall said that it started off as mainly golf days including one which raised £8,500 while he was living in High Street in Hungerford in 2008 and another in 2004 which raised £4,500 at Donnington Valley Golf Club, but that fundraising had become more diverse including marathons and even canoe races.
