Newbury’s mayor and the town crier will ring in Newbury Apple Day in the Market Place




Newbury’s mayor will be in the Market Place inviting people to take part in Newbury Apple Day, writes Bethany Sirianni.

The annual Newbury Apple Day is happening again this year and will be in the Market Place on Saturday, October 4, from 9am to 2.30pm.

The mayor, David Harman, will be attending the Apple Day stand from 11am to 11.30am with mayoress Rosalind Harman.

The town crier, Steve Wallis, will be there as well to ring in Apple Day.

All are welcome to try the apple crusher, press apples and taste the freshly pressed juice.

Anyone with surplus apples is invited to take them along to add to the juicing.

There will be an apple expert on hand to identify unknown apples from guests’ gardens and also try samples of unusual local varieties for tasting.

Besides fresh juice, there will be homemade apple-themed cakes and savoury treats available.

Organiser Rachel Haslam said: “The annual event helps bring our community together and is a fun opportunity to celebrate the abundance of apples we have around Newbury.”

Newbury Apple Day is run by a team of volunteers and is sponsored by the Greenham Trust and Newbury Town Council, as well as individual donations.
