Newbury MP Lee Dillon reacts to Kemi Badenoch’s Tory leadership win

Newbury MP Lee Dillon has already put the boot in to the new Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who got the job at the weekend.

Mr Dillon said he has doubts about the Conservatives’ ability to provide a credible opposition to the current government, given their own track record on issues like the economy and the NHS.

“How can they credibly question the economic impact of the budget after cheering on Liz Truss’s disastrous mini-budget that sent mortgages spiralling?" he said.

"And how can they hold ministers to account on NHS improvements when they left our health service on its knees?

“We’ll continue to stand up for communities across the UK that have been let down for far too long.”

Mr Dillon also added that the Liberal Democrats are "committed to ensuring fair, responsive governance and advocating for those often overlooked".
