Newbury MP pays tribute to Sir David Amess after killing
Newbury MP Laura Farris took to Twitter to pay tribute to Sir David Amess after he was killed in an attack at a constituency surgery today (Friday).
Sir David - an MP for almost 40 years - died after being stabbed while meeting constituents at a church in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.
In a message posted on Twitter, Laura Farris MP described her colleague's killing as "the most devastating news."
Richard Benyon, Mrs Farris MP's predecessor as Newbury's representative to Parliament, also released a statement via Twitter.
Baron Benyon - who served as MP between 2005 and 2019 - reflected on the killing of Jo Cox in 2016, the last time a British representative was murdered.
