Newbury MP refutes newspaper's claim he used hosepipe during ban

The People claimed in an article that the environment and fisheries minister left a 15ft hosepipe running for two hours in the grounds of his 20,000-acre family estate in Englefield on Friday (6).
In response, Mr Benyon has reported The People to Thames Valley Police for alleged trespass and has complained of the behaviour of the newspaper’s reporter and photographer towards his family, including his wife Zoe.
Mr Benyon has also written to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) over the issue and is awaiting a reply.
He told newburytoday.co.uk: "Neither I, nor my family, nor anyone who works for me used that hosepipe, or any other hosepipe since the ban was introduced. We are fully compliant with the measures that Thames Water has put in place.”
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police, Adam Fisher said: “Thames Valley Police was notified about an incident at a property in Englefield, West Berkshire on Friday (6/4). However, the caller did not require police attendance and there is no further police involvement.”
