Newbury MP to open dementia support event
The alliance invites all to a celebration of the project - with the aim of inspiring Newbury to be a dementia friendly community.
Following an 11.30am official joint opening by Richard Benyon and a Dr D Rice, there will be live music and refreshments, along with information stands and people to chat to.
The alliance requests people to make a pledge, to be added to a family wall, on making Newbury a more dementia friendly community.
A tree of wishes will also be available, to place wishes and share similar thoughts.
Sue Butterworth, a spokeswoman for the Alzheimer’s Society said it was vital that people living with dementia should still be able to enjoy all that Newbury has to offer and continued
“Many people with dementia have reported feeling trapped in their own homes and let down by their communities, with one in three only getting out once a week and one in 10 only manage this once a month.”
For more information about the event, which runs from 11am to 2pm in the Market Place, contact Sue Butterworth, Dementia Action Alliance co ordinator, telephone 07717 3430468 or email susan.butterworth@alzheimers.org.uk.
