Newbury mums gear up for marathon
Clare Bull and Claire Dodridge will compete in their first ever London Marathon this year
TWO Newbury mothers are preparing to run their first ever marathons in London this year.
Clare Bull, aged 38, and 40-year-old mother-of two Claire Dodridge are raising money for Cancer Research UK, a charity they say is close to everyone's hearts, but especially Mrs Bull's after her husband Andy died seven years ago just months after he was diagnosed with brain cancer, leaving her a single mother to their 20-month-old son.
The pair have been training for the April 17 race in all weathers recently and Mrs Bull said: “Training is very hard work, especially with the children, and we are clearly not natural runners.
“But although it is tricky, you have to do it once you have made the commitment and the kids join us on the bike sometimes, they seem to love it!”
The women are hoping to hold a number of fundraising events in the coming months, including a car boot sale and a quiz night, while their children are arranging a non uniform day at their school, St Nicolas Junior School, to help top up the funds.
