Newbury Neuro Nine raise impressive sum for Three Peaks challenge

Tough weekend for climbers brings in £8,000 for charity

A GROUP of nine Newbury friends and work colleagues – the Newbury Neuro Nine – successfully took on the three toughest British climbs at the weekend and raised nearly £8,000 for charity.

The group took on the Three Peaks Challenge – taking in Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike in just 24 hours last Saturday.

They managed an impressive time of just 15-and-a-half hours of climbing for their fundraiser for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The group was raising funds for MNDA after one member, Lisa Goldsworth, lost her grandfather John Austin to the disease in 2011.

The team, made up of Lisa Goldsworth, Claire Green, Cheryl Davis, Ceara Moore, Samantha Lloyd, Ruth Aitken, Kerryn Cyfka, Georgie Boothroyd and Guy Goldsworth, began training a year ago and held various fundraisers in the build-up to the challenge.

Yesterday the group confirmed that the team are just short of an impressive £8,000 for the charity after all of the fundraising and taking on the challenge.

Group member Guy Goldsworth said: “The team would like to thank everyone who has donated so much money to a great cause and to all the support of friends, family and colleagues who have helped in so many ways.

“It meant that the sore legs and tired heads were worth it!”
