Newbury optometrist first to use pioneering eye health technology in UK

A Newbury-based optometrist is the first in the country to use a pioneering technology that helps to treat patients who suffer from a common eye disease.

Dr Valarie Jerome, the owner of Valarie Jerome Optometrists on Northbrook Street, purchased the state-of-the-art OptiClear Intense Pulse Light (IPL) machine to safely and effectively treat causes of dry eye disease by getting to the root of the problem; inflammation.

Dr Jerome suffers from dry eye herself and so she often relates to her patients.

She said: “DED is one of the most common conditions I see in clinic.

"It has a significant impact on the quality of life of my patients due to symptoms like foreign body sensation, pain, blurred vision, dryness or watery eyes.

“It can also make regular activities, such as driving, engaging in sports or reading more difficult.

“I am always looking to provide my patients with the latest in technological eye care, and with DED affecting more and more patients, I was keen to invest in OptiClear IPL as soon as it launched.

“The state-of-the-art machine allows me to offer a new pain-free, long-term treatment for my dry eye patients.”
