Newbury post box disappears

At 7.08pm on October 11 an ambulance crashed into the post box in Wendan Road, causing confusing for householders as they went to deliver their mail the next day.
A spokesman for the South Central Ambulance Service, James Keating-Wilkes said: “Newbury ambulance station was responding to a life threatening medical emergency in the vicinity of Wendan Road. Whilst undertaking a reversing manoeuvre at low speed the vehicle hit a pole mounted post box which fell onto a wall dislodging a number of bricks.
“The ambulance vehicle sustained minor damage and neither of the two person crew was injured.
“The crew involved in the incident continued on foot to the patient and treated them before calling for another ambulance to convey the patient to hospital.
“There was no delay in treating the patient or in conveying them to hospital. The patient was treated within the eight minute response time target.”
Royal Mail spokesman Nick Martens said all mail inside the post box was retrieved and processed as normal.
“We have sent engineers to the scene and we will replace the post box as soon as possible,” Mr Martens added.
