Newbury Post Office re-opened after revamp

St John’s Post Office in Andover Road business was temporarily closed last month (June) for a complete make-over of the building and the services offered and re-opened recently with a fresh new look.
Shoppers can now post items and renew various licences whilst they shop, at a new ‘combi’ serving point at the retail counter, open during the early morning and evening - outside normal Post Office opening hours.
Postmistress, Bhavisha Patel, said customers had commented favourably about the brighter looking premises, and had told her the new service was “extremely useful.”
It meant, she said customers could access Post Office services whilst picking up groceries and between the (additional) hours of 6.30am to 9am and 5.30pm to 7pm - when the Post Office was closed.
“It’s the way the Post Office will keep going - unfortunately it’s a way of the times,” said Mrs Patel, adding the new service also helped to reduce queues at very busy times when the Post Office was open.
The postmistress, who, together with her husband, Vyomesh, took over the business last year, after her father - Bhupendra Patel, better known as Bob - died.
Post Office area manager, Mark Jacobs, said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to the people of Newbury and we are confident this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
