Newbury pub landlord and staff judge competition

50 motorbikes roar up at Old London Apprentice

A Newbury pub landlord and bar staff judged a motorbike competition on Saturday – after the gleaming machines turned a few heads in the town.

Some 50 motorbikes lined up outside the Old London Apprentice, Hambridge Road, between 11am and 4pm, as they gathered for the 2015 West Berkshire Motorcycle Action Group (WeBe MAG) Bike Show.

Riders arrived from as far afield as Andover, Bicester and Basingstoke.

“It was fantastic, a really good turn-out,” said landlord Ken Amor.

The competition categories included Best Bike in Show, awarded to a Triumph Rocket, best ‘paint job’ (a Victory) and the Barmaid’s Choice – a pink Triumph Bonneville.

Also on offer was food, stalls, a raffle, quiz and disco, raising around £200 for the Soldiers and Sailors Air Force Association, after the group had taken over the pub, said Mr Amor.

“But they come every week – we don’t mind.”

WeBe MAG, a social group that also organises courses on motorcycle safety and first aid at the pub, meets every Tuesday evening from 8pm, at the Old London Apprentice.

New members are welcome.
