A new tenant has taken over an empty town centre pub.

Independent Dodo Pub Co. shared with newburytoday that it has taken over The Cross Keys in Newbury – which it said it will be renaming soon.

Dodo opened its first pub The Rusty Bicycle in East Oxford in 2009.

It has since opened venues in Reading, Cheltenham and Bristol – The Cross Keys marking its 10th.

The company said it plans to breathe new life into the pub while respecting its place in the town centre, bringing the same relaxed, community-focused energy and tasty beers and food it has in its other pubs.

The pub has been closed since February after James Callery and his team left, responsible for the pub’s popular steam-punk vibe.

Brewing company Arkell’s then advertised for a new tenancy on its website.
