Newbury pub, Plough on the Green, gives boost to children's charity Dingley's Promise

A Newbury pub recently handed over a hefty cheque for £1,850 to a local children's charity.

Dingley's Promise delivers life changing support to children under the age of five with special educational needs and disabilities.

Staff at the Plough on the Green pub on Stroud Green presented the cheque to representatives of Dingley's Promise Newbury at 5pm on Friday, March 10.

"It's something that the pub used to do years ago and we started doing it again," said landlady, Kirstie Lane, who took over the pub in July.

Staff began fundraising after the pub changed hands through organising weekly quizzes and raffles to raise as much money as possible, including a big Christmas raffle and market in December.

"The charity means a lot to many of the regulars, so there was no question of which one we were going to raise money for," she added. "We're hoping to raise more and more for them each year if we can."

And staff will continue supporting the charities that matter most to their customers.

They are due to meet with representatives of a PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) charity in April.

"We've got a few regulars who were ex servicemen and now suffer with PTSD," she added.

Staff are currently considering fundraising ideas to bolster the sum they have already raised for this charity through scratch cards, and will release further announcements in due course.
