Ho Ho Ho? Could the Newbury Christmas Carnival be back?
The Christmas Carnival could be back on the cards at Newbury Racecourse.
Locals living nearby the site have been leafleted by organisers who are trying to put the show on again, after West Berkshire Council said no, no, no rather than ho, ho, ho to the event last year.
The letter says: “While we were disappointed our last application was refused… We appreciate some of the concerns regarding potential impact of noise, how the event will be accessed and how parking would be managed.
“We would like to reassure you that we have taken on board the concerns raised by some of you through the previous application.”
Newbury Racecourse and event producers Underbelly say they will be submitting another planning application for the event to the council soon.
Last year, dozens of objections were lodged against a proposed Christmas Winter Wonderland at Newbury Racecourse.
They claimed the funfair, complete with Santa’s grotto and a mystery forest walk, would create noise and light pollution, causing sleep deprivation for at least 15 per cent of the year.
The Newbury Racecourse Estate Association said in its objection that no consideration had been given to “the effect on their quality of life or on their multi-million-pound capital investment in their apartments”.
More than a hundred people started a petition to save the Carnival after it was kicked out by West Berkshire Council last September.
A public consultation website for people to air views has been launched. It is at: https://consultwithyou.co.uk/christmas-carnival/christmas-carnival/your-views#nav
