Newbury Racecourse reports over a million pounds in profit, increase in attendance and revenues

Newbury Racecourse made more than £1m in pre-tax profit last year.

The company, which is listed as a racing, entertainment and events business, released its annual results last week.

Revenue was up by 16.3 per cent from 2023, as the racecourse brought in £22.04m in total.

This was helped by an uptick in attendances, with 133,896 punters heading to the racecourse last year, up from 129,836 the year before.

The racecourse has also increased the amount which it invests back into the horse racing industry.

Last year saw a 18.1 per cent increase in total prize money paid, with this rising to £6.87m.

This follows previous record prize money increases in recent years.

“I am delighted to announce a 16 per cent revenue growth in the underlying business, demonstrating the success of several initiatives across many areas of the business,” said Dominic Burke, chairman of Newbury Racecourse.

“The company continues to invest in racecourse facilities to ensure that we provide high-quality facilities for all of our visitors, event delegates, racegoers and racecourse attendees, as we continually strive to invest for the future benefit of the business.

“Our sincere thanks, as ever, to all sponsors, partners, owners, trainers, stable staff, members, racegoers and all customers for their ongoing support.”

Like any business however, Newbury Racecourse is not immune to the realities of the British economy.

It reported a 10.6 per cent increase in costs from last year, attributing this to the impact of inflation, the rise in the National Minimum Wage and the increased cost of utilities such as electricity, gas and water.

But the results are still positive news for the racecourse, which welcomed Shaun Hinds as chief executive in June 2024.

A stacked calendar is set for the rest of 2025, with Four Party in the Paddock concerts confirmed.

July 19 will see Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ella Henderson wow crowds, before Bjorn Again perform some of the great ABBA hits on August August 16 will see global stars Clean Bandit take the stage, before James Bay appears on September 20.
