Newbury Real Ale Festival goes down a treat once again

Hundreds attend event despite the wet weather

Beer and cider have been flowing and rain and people have been pouring into Newbury Real Ale Festival.

People braved the damp weather; turning up to sample more than 150 ales and beers, and more than 100 ciders.

Indeed, the beer tent was full to the seams and some ales and ciders had already run out by 4pm.

Among the hundreds of people at the event, held at Northcroft playing fields, was Fieldhouse and her family.

"I like it, otherwise I would not come," she said. "It's nice to have a selection and there are lots of beers that I've not heard of."

When asked if she thought that the festival was good for the town, Fieldhouse said: "Definitely. It brings people into the town. I'm sure it brings money into Newbury and I'm sure Newbury benefits from it and it's something different to do.

The event is organised by Media Fusion and Newbury and Thatcham Hockey Club.

Director of Media Fusion, David , said he was optimistic for a big turnout despite the rain.

He said this was because there was a great selection of bands, an open mic session, and a good variety of drinks available.

The event raises money for Naomi House and Newbury and Thatcham Hockey Club.

Last year's event saw more than 6,000 people raise around £10,000 each for the two causes.
