Newbury RFC scores top sum for cancer charity
Newbury Rugby Football Club proudly celebrated its eighth annual Pink Day at the weekend.
On Saturday, Newbury RFC hosted a fundraising day in support of Newbury Cancer Care – which raised almost £6,000.
And donations are still be made through its JustGiving page.
The event consisted of an auction, a raffle and a bucket collection for the charity.
Pink was the theme of the day, led by four pink ladies who raised £1,400 in bucket donations.
Other generous donations by individuals and businesses boosted the total by £3,000.
Newbury RFC president, David Jones, said: "To be able to support this charity and say thank you to 40 of our local sponsors, as well as both Blues beating Witney 31-12 and the ladies beating Supermarine 90-0, it was a near perfect day.
"We are delighted to support this excellent charity and develop even stronger community ties in the future."
Chairman of Newbury Cancer Care Dave Ormrod added: "What a fantastic afternoon. The commitment shown by the club and the generosity of the supporters on the day provided a memorable 'pink experience'.
"The many cancer patients in West Berkshire will see the benefits of the club's work over the coming weeks and months."
Mr Jones added: "We are probably the biggest community-based sports club in West Berkshire in terms of participation and events held at the club.
"Also, 14 of the 18 members of Saturday's squad played through the junior section."
