Newbury Road through Eastbury closed due to River Lambourn flooding
Residents in the village have been experiencing problems with flooding for the past few days (pictured), however the heavy downpours last night was the final blow for the village.
Homeowners have been desperately trying to minimize the impact and protect their homes from flooding, some seen carrying belongings from their homes.
One pump is currently on site in the village helping to alleviate the impact of floodwater from the River Lambourn and also groundwater which is accumulating following weeks of heavy rain.
Those travelling from Lambourn can get as far as The Plough at Eastbury pub on the Newbury Road before the road closes.
The pub remains open for business and has not currently been affected by flood water entering the property.
Other parts of the district are also suffering, including Boxford, where resident Tony Stone said his garden now had twice the amount of floodwater in it since yesterday, following last night’s downpours.
“The river just can’t take any more,” he said. “Nothing can take any more.”
He added that he had surrounding his home, one of the cottages next to Boxford Mill, with sandbags to protect from flooding.
“We are just sitting and waiting,” he said. “Hopefully it will get a bit better today.”
Meanwhile, the Kennet and Avon Canal burst its banks close to Newbury town centre today, causing some water to flood onto the pedestrian towpath.
It follows record water levels on the River Kennet at Newbury and Theale this morning.
Heavy showers mixed with sunny intervals are forecast until 6pm for West Berkshire, however the yellow severe weather warning has now been removed.
Don’t forget to keep your photographs coming in of the flooding in your area.
