Newbury Rotary's golf day and quiz fundraiser

The recent (May 10), annual Newbury Rotary Fun Charity Golf Day, at Donnington Valley Golf Club, attracted eight teams of four, in aid of Stroke Care for Newbury & West Berks and other Rotary charities.
After a close contest, the winning team representing Carter Jonas, comprising of Tim Barton (Capt), Patrick Griffin, Greg Humphreys, Stuart Atkinson, beat last year’s winners and the defending champions, Nick Wood, Callum Roy, Jim Illot, John Stirland, on count-back.
“The day again proved to be a great success with thanks to Rotarian Trevor Gibbons and Peter Smith from Donnington Valley Golf Club for jointly organizing the event, netting just under £700,” said Chris Bartlam, a spokesman for the rotary club.
Funds were further boosted after 70 people attended the recent (May 12) annual Rotary Club of Newbury fun quiz night at East Woodhay Village Hall.
“The questions, which were set by Tim and Julia Barton were focused on Newbury and the surrounding area together with some additional general knowledge,” said Mr Bartlam.
The quiz, fish and chip supper and raffle raised £485 towards the rotarians’ annual local charity projects, providing days out on a specially equipped barge for local charity groups and “Kids Out”, a national Rotary day, involving taking children with special needs on a fun day outing.
