Newbury Rugby Club found in breach of licence
The club was found to be not in control of proceedings during a gig held at the Monks Lane ground in July, the ‘beach party’ charity event (pictured).
Sound levels from the gig were found to have exceeded allowed decibel levels, and a number of complaints had been made by residents living nearby.
West Berkshire Council’s licensing sub-committee held a review of the licence last Wednesday following an application brought by Environmental Health, and modifications were put in place.
The club can now hold only four major live or recorded music events - attended by 500 people or more - per year, with three weeks between each.
Noise consultants must be employed to monitor sound levels to avoid the music irritating nearby residents.
the club must also letter drop residents in a one kilometre radius of the ground to advise of events at least on week before.
Environmental Health must also be notified one month before any major music event.
The committee heard representations from Environmental Health and Greenham Parish Council, and Newbury Rugby Club manager Chris Rees was present to give evidence on behalf of the club.
The chairman of the rugby club, Julian Lewis, admitted before the meeting that the club had overstepped the mark unintentionally, and would comply with any future sanctions.
