Newbury Santas get ready to jog on
The annual British Heart Foundation (BHF) fundraiser will this year be known as Chase the Pud, with an added aim of whittling waistlines expanded by seasonal treats, along a range of distances, up to 5km, to suit any runner.
This year’s jog also coincides with Newbury’s Christmas market, also set to take place in Victoria Park, from November 30 to December 22 and Nick Houghton, Christmas market organiser said the market was pleased to support the charity’s Santa Jog. “It’s a wonderful accompaniment to what we have planned at the Newbury Christmas Market.
“With Santa himself officially starting the runners, we hope members of the public will donate generously to raise money for a very worthy cause.”
A spokeswoman for the charity, Alison Rosier, said the fun-packed family Santa jog provided the perfect way to kick-start the festivities.
“With a Santa costume provided for all adults who take part and children under 14 encouraged to come in any fancy dress they like, it’s an excellent way for friends, families and colleagues to get together, share some Christmas spirit and help raise vital funds for the BHF.
Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and for half a century, the BHF has pioneered research into heart and circulatory conditions, including babies born with life-threatening heart problems.
The Chase the Pud Santa jog takes place on Sunday December 1 in Victoria Park. Registration is from 10am, prior to the 11am start. The adult entry fee is £10 in advance, or £15 on the day and free of charge to under 14s.
