Newbury school has improved from satisfactory to good, says Ofsted

The school was given a good rating in areas including, the quality of teaching, the achievement of pupils, the behaviour and safety of pupils and the leadership and management at the school.
Inspector, Keith Sadler, said: "Pupils’ achievement has improved since the previous inspection.
"When taking account of their different starting points, the proportion making and exceeding the expected progress is above national figures.
"Teaching has improved and is now mostly good across a range of subjects.
"Some is outstanding. Its impact on achievement is positive."
He added: "Pupils work hard in lessons and are keen to learn.
"Their behaviour around the school and in worship is exemplary."
Mr Sadler said that as a target he now wanted the school to move from good to outstanding by July 2014.
Headteacher at the Newport Road school, Alison Webster, said: "I feel immensely privileged to have been part of a collaborative and collective rigorous drive to raise the standards and quality of provision and achievement at St Joseph’s, and I extend my thanks to all those involved – the children, staff, governors, parents, parishes, wider community and intercessions of St Joseph - all of whom have contributed to this success.”
The inspection took place at the end of September.
