Newbury set to welcome in new mayor

The annual mayor making ceremony will take place in the town today (Sunday)
THE 415th mayor of Newbury will be sworn in today (Sunday) at the annual mayor making ceremony in the Corn Exchange.
The outgoing mayor, Ian Grose, will hand over the reins to his successor, Jeff Beck (Con, Clay Hill), who was unanimously voted for as mayor elect at the first full council meeting of Newbury Town Council since the local elections, which was held on Wednesday.
Arthur Johnson (Lib Dem, Pyle Hill) was voted for as deputy mayor elect at the same meeting.
The mayor making ceremony is due to start at 10am, although tickets are required for the event.
