Newbury student in 'jailbreak' attempt

Tom Claridge, from Newbury, is taking part in Jailbreak, a charity travel challenge in which participants have 36 hours to travel as far as they can without spending any money on transport.
Tom, who is studying politics at Aberystwyth University, said: “It sounded like a brilliant way to raise money for charity as the challenge itself is very unique.”
Tom is in contact with various travel companies in the hope that they can provide him with a flight on March 23. Previous teams have reached Cairo and Lisbon, but Tom aims to beat the record.
He said: “I’d love to get all the way to Sydney to beat the record but I’d be happy to get anywhere abroad.
“Help with finding transport is sorely needed, as the further I travel, the more money I will raise.
"I’ve had numerous pledges that if I make it to another country, another £100 will be added in donations.”
Tom is raising money for Practical Action, a charity that provides infrastructure for communities in the third world.
