Eastfield House Surgery in Newbury unveils plans to move into bigger, purpose-built facility south of Newbury College on the A339

A Newbury surgery has released its plans to re-locate to a larger, purpose-built facility elsewhere in the town.

Eastfield House Surgery, which is currently located at 6 St John’s Road, wishes to move to a new two-storey, two-winged building immediately to the south of Newbury College along the A339.

The proposal is currently in its planning stage, and the surgery is seeking engagement with its patients and the wider community to provide feedback.

An Eastfield spokesperson stated: “The current surgery site is too small and we are unable to provide a wide range of services to patients.

“We are committed to providing exceptional quality of service, and the new surgery will support our existing services and broaden the range of services in collaboration with the other GP practices in our local network.”

The surgery has put forward a number of reasons as to why the new facility should be built, the key one being that the current surgery is too small.

Eastfield has stated that it is 68 per cent undersized.

Other reasons offered include that it needs to provide long-term capacity for the increasing population of Newbury and it will allow the surgery to offer a wider range of services to patients.

The plans for the new health centre include 60 car parking spaces, a pharmacy, a large treatment suite, space for support staff such as physiotherapists and community paramedics and an accredited training space.

Eastfield House is currently working in conjunction with Greenham Trust to provide the new facility, with support from the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB).

The surgery is also hosting an in-person event for people to view the plans at St John’s Church Hall on St John’s Road between 4.30pm and 6.45pm on Tuesday, March 26.

Surgery staff and architects will be present at the event to answer any questions, and attendees will be asked to complete a survey on the day.

Following this drop-in session, the plans will be available to view in the surgery.
