Horris Hill School teacher wins silver in National Teaching Awards




A North Hampshire teacher has been recognised as one the country’s top educators in this year's Pearson National Teaching Awards.

Carina Bone, a science teacher at Horris Hill School, was chosen from thousands of nominees for the Silver Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School.

She will now be in with the chance of winning the Gold Award at an awards ceremony in London later this year.

A school spokesperson said: “Mrs Bone’s inspirational teaching brings science to life for pupils of all ages.

“From igniting curiosity in the nursery to guiding scholars at the top of the school, her creativity, energy and passion make every lesson meaningful, engaging and fun.”

Mrs Bone is one of 93 teachers and educators to be recognised as a silver winner in this year’s awards.

She previously told newburytoday: “It is a privilege to be part of the Horris Hill community, where the passion for learning and discovery is felt in every classroom.

“I am so grateful to work alongside such dedicated colleagues and to inspire and be inspired by our wonderful pupils every day.”

Her success coincides with National Thank a Teacher Day (June 18), run by the Teaching Awards Trust, an independent charity created more than 25 years ago.

President of the Teaching Awards Trust and bestselling children’s author Michael Morpurgo said: “The dedication and impact of those involved in educating young people is truly remarkable.
