Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford feature on fine dining list
Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford all feature high on a list of Berkshire’s top dining destinations.
The study, by serviced apartments provider Berkshire Rooms, covered all of the entire county’s1,459 registered restaurants and used thousands of online Tripadvisor reviews to find out which ones secured four stars ratings or above (good or above) by the public.
The focus then shifted to the location of those restaurants to reveal which towns had the largest proportion of four-star-rated eateries.
Top of the list of towns with more than 100 restaurants is Newbury, which contains 113 restaurants in all, 86 (76 per cent) of which gained at least four stars in the study.
It’s also home to The Woodspeen a Micheline-starred venue.
Thatcham also features near the top, with 32 restaurants, 19 of which are rated four star or above (59 per cent). It is third in the table of towns which have between 20 and 99 restaurants.
Of those towns with under 20 restaurants, Hungerford boasts the highest percentage of quality venues – while there are only 15 restaurants in total, 14 (93 per cent) of them are rated four stars or above.
The study concluded: “As highlighted in the study, the county is a hive of foody activity, and a high proportion of its eating establishments secured four-star ratings or above during the course of the research.
“There’s a vast selection of restaurants serving delicious cuisines from all over the world in just about every Berkshire town.”
